November 30, 1999 - Volume 1, Number 5

Welcome to a fifth edition of the Baren Touhk Gazette. Hey fellow citizens! We've got a Masquerade Ball coming up! And an Auction. And a Raffle! We've got got new members joining us every day and lots of activity. Don't blink, don't miss anything.
In the issue we have some more information regarding the Masquerade Ball and the Auction that will follow right after. Raffle tickets are still for sale too. Get them while they're hot. Morgan's slave, honey, has an interview with Fane as well as some trivia questions to test your Gorean knolwedge. We have a new column from aurora called From the first girl's desk. We've some new poetry and some humor. We'll summarize the new codes and offer some a couple of hints in the Third Knowledge column

As usual we have our silkings list and our welcome to new citizens. Let's make everyone feel welcome. So time to sit back and stay warm while it blusters cold outside. Sip your blackwine or paga (a favortie of our Captain) and see what's new!


  • The Ball is December 4th. Type .show news and .show ball for details. Also type .help raffle, .raffle, and .show auction.

  • all citizens were given 3000 credits for the auction/raffle/Masquerade ball on December 4. Look in this issue for more info on the events.

  • The raffle drawing will be on December 4th at the Ball/Auction. type .show news. No credits will be handed out... so freepersons should make their raffle ticket prices low as slaves will not have large amounts of credits to spend.

  • In recognition and appreciation to the esteemed city founder, for her extensive efforts at record keeping and research, the Captain of the Council and the entire Council of Baren Touhk have been granted the priviledge to bestow the honorable title of "High Scribe of Baren Touhk" upon Khim the Scribe of Baren Touhk. Her travels and reading have allowed her to gather and record much valuable information for the city archives. She has proven to be a tireless historian and overseer of the treasured city archives.

  • A new computer is being set up for CT and its sister ports. there may be some downtime next weekend. Not to worry, downtime will as always be kept as minimal as possible.

  • Lady Zara announces slave classes will begin Wednesday (Dec.1) at 9:30pm est. first months topic, Brief Intro to Gor. She will be the instructor for the classes.

  • There is a new schedule for New User Orientations. If you are giving information to a new user, or are awaiting an NUO yourself, type in .show schedule for the latest information.
    New User Orientation are held:
    Monday and Wednesday - with serafina at 8 pm Eastern Time.
    Sundays - with aurora at 8 pm Eastern Time
    Thursday and Friday - with sulis at 1 pm Eastern Time
    special arrangements for other times can be made by contacting aurora.

  • Two important rules revisions:
    7. The FreepersonsHall is totally off-limits to ALL slaves, and the slave_gathering room is totally off-limits to ALL Free Persons. There are NO exceptions. These two rooms are designed for Free persons and slaves to share information among themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. Slaves may be "asked" (not ordered) to come out using .tell messages, but keep in mind this is a haven for slaves, a place to learn and read. Also it is wise for most slaves to log in and out from this room. The room may be made private by slaves, but any slave asking to enter must be invited in as it is a haven for all slaves.

    The former rule 11 regarding the 700 credit limitation for slaves is no longer in effect.

    • Anyone who has additions to any of the Gor help webpages can send aurora the text file or html to the CT email addy in her profile.

    • Lately we've been getting record number of users logged on at once. Membership is high and participation is high. This says a lot about us as a community. Growing in leaps and bounds!

    • There are new help pages posted. Don't forget, you can read the help files online as well. Just type ".help show" for a list of files available.

    • The Ubar grants credit to all that bring visitors here (500 credits) or help newbies in the portal (300 credits), plus has been paying generously to others that have performed various services to the city

    • Request:--please do not use the Crimson_Tavern, Talender_Inn, or home_stone as an entry point into the talker unless you plan to STAY once you log in. Slaves are reminded to use the slave_gathering for exit and entry. Freepersons could use entry sites such as the Ship, Dock, Portal, Tarn or simply the Freepersons_Hall.

    • The room boards are being used more, you are missing fun if you do not read them

    • The mailing list and web EZboard are seeing more use too, get involved in the discussions

    • The website is constantly being updated. If you have contributions, contact aurora.

    • Send your poetry to Baren_touhk@hotmail.com to get it added to the web scrolls.

    • Webpages-if you need help making a gor webpage for your citizen character, see the help pages on the CT site. Please .smail your link to aurora or send her the html to Baren_touhk@hotmail.com and she will load it onto the CT site. We encourage all citizens to make a Gor page, even if it is very basic it is much appreciated.

    Did you here about the Tuchuck who that stayed up all night to see where the sun went ?
    It finally dawned on him.

    A merchant from the rival city of Cos was stranded in the city of Ar. After a night of glutting himself at the table of a wealthy Merchant caste brother of Ar, he died after falling down a set of stairs in a drunken stupor.
    "Only a tarsk bit to bury a Cosian? Here's a silver tarndisk; go and bury 20 more of them."

    A slave on her way to her kennel from the fields passed by a roadsign that said "CLEAN ROOMS - 8 PASANGS".
    By the time the obedient girl walked eight pasangs, she had cleaned 43 rooms.

    A Turian, a Cosian, a Torvoldslander and n Initiate are in a tarn basket flying high over the Thassa..
    The Turian takes a bottle of fine liqeuer out of his pack; pours some into a glass, drinks it, and says: "In Turia, we have the best sweet liqeuer in the world, nowhere in the world you can find liqeuer as good as the one we produce. And we have so much of it, that we can just throw it away..."
    Saying that, he tossed the rest of the bottle over the side of the basket and down into the gleaming Thassa. All the others are quite impressed.
    The Cosian takes out a box of packed songfish, "In Cos, we have the finest seafood delicacies such as these songfishes. Nowhere in the world will you find more exquisite tidbits, and we have so many of them, that we can just throw them away...". Saying that, he throws the box over the side. One more time, everybody is quite impressed.
    At this time, the Torvoldslander just stands up, grabs the Initiate by the collar of his white robe... and throws him overboard.

    Q. How many vegetarian Warriors does it take to screw in an energy globe?
    A. Both of them.

    What about the simple-minded Warrior whose Free Companion gave birth to twins?
    He wanted to know who the other father was.

    Three high caste but ill-educated pregnant Freewomen were visiting a Physician to ensure the healthy births of their children.
    The Physician asked the first Freewoman "in what position was the baby concieved ?"
    "He was on top ", she replyed.
    "You will have a boy !" the Physician exclaimed.
    The second woman was asked the same question.
    "I was on top ", was the reply.
    "you will have a baby girl. " said the Physician.
    With this, the third women, from a spoiled Merchant family, burst into tears.
    "Whats the matter ?" asked the Physician.
    "Am I going to have sleen?"
