Welcome to a fourth edition of the Baren Touhk Gazette. First and foremost I should apologize to all those who have been patiently awaiting this issue. Truth of the matter is, yours truly got hung up in the vicious cycle of the seasonal cold and flu season, and a bit overextended in other projects and areas as well. But pleased to report now that things have settled down and I'm given the chance in catching up.
In the issue is the next installment of the Third Knowledge column, this time graciously written by our own Captain Fane regarding some of the talker programs out there. What will the next column be about? You decide and let me know.
We have information concerning the raffle for the December 4 Masquerade Ball for the benefit of those who have joined us since the successful Harvest Festival and wish to partake in this next raffle and want to know what's going on. There will also be an Auction at this event which will be covered in the next issue .
Highlights for this issue include the latest in silking lists, new citizens, new code, poetry and amusements. So grab your steaming mug of blackwine, sit back, and check out what's been happening in our city!

Next issue will go over some of the particulars of these new features.

Humor
It was a dark, stormy, night. A young Warrior was on his first assignment, and it was guard duty.
A Captain stepped out taking his hunting sleen for a walk. The nervous young warrior snapped to attention, made a perfect salute, and snapped out "Sir, Good evening, Sir!"
The Captain, out for some relaxation, returned the salute and said "Good evening soldier, nice night, isn't it?"
Well it wasn't a nice night, but the warrior wasn't going to disagree with the Captain, so the he saluted again and replied "Sir, Yes Sir!".
The Captain continued, "You know there's something about a stormy night that I find soothing, it's really relaxing. Don't you agree?"
The warrior didn't agree, but he was just a private, and responded "Sir, Yes Sir!"
The Captain, pointing at the sleen, "This is a Northern Hunting Sleen, the best type of sleen to train."
The warrior glanced at the snapping hissing beast, saluted yet again and said "Sir, Yes Sir!"
The Captain continued "I got this sleen for my Free Companion."
The young warrior hesistated briefly in the rain and simply said "Good trade Sir!"***
A Merchant came home from a long business trip to find his son astride a very fancy riding tharlation. "Where did you get the money for that fine beast? It must have cost 30 silver tarsks."
"Easy, Father," the boy replied. "I earned it hiking."
"Come now," the Merchant said. "Tell me the truth."
"That is the truth," the boy replied. "Every night you were gone, the guard from the Second Watch would come over to see Mother. He'd give me a tarsk and tell me to take a hike!"***
There was once were two Peasants who lived in huts side by side who went by the names Gam and Ham. For as long as any could remember the two have been feuding. Gam owned a prize vulo hen and each morning would look in his garden and pick up one of his hen's eggs for breakfast.
One day Gam looked outside and saw that the hen had laid an egg in the Ham's garden. He was about to go next door when he saw Ham pick up the egg. Gam ran up to Ham and told him that the egg belonged to him because he owned the hen. Ham disagreed because the egg was laid on his property.
They argued for a while until finally Gam said, "In my family we normally solve disputes by the following actions: I kick you in the balls and time how long it takes you to get back up, then you kick me in the balls and time how long it takes for me to get up, whomever gets up quicker wins the egg."
Ham considered this and agreed to this and so Gam went and found his heaviest pair of boots and put them on, he took a few steps back, then ran towards Ham and kicked as hard as he could in the balls.
Ham fell to the floor clutching himself howling in agony for 30 minutes.
Eventually he stood up and said to Gam, "Now it's my turn to kick you."
Gam smirked and said, "Keep the damn egg."***
A certain ship's Captain had six children and was very proud of his achievement. He was so proud of himself that he started calling his Free Companion, "Mother of Six," in spite of her objections.
One day they went to a festival. Eventually the Captain decided that it was time to go home, and wanted to find out if his Free Companion was ready to leave as well. He shouted at the top of his voice, "Shall we go home, Mother of Six?"
His Free Companion, irritated by her loud Captain's lack of discretion shouted back, "Anytime you're ready, Father of Four!"
