Tal, and welcome!

Probably the most gratifying set of events over this past month has been the increasing number of people who have joined our ranks and who log time here. We're seeing many Freepersons and slaves come through the portals and settling in and becoming a part of the community. This issue lists some of those newcomers, but if I were to wait for a day where I could completely catch up on the growing, this issue would never have made it out at all.

So I welcome here and now all you new folks and welcome you to Baren Touhk. This is your city now and that is your homestone there atop the cylinder. Make it proud, and be proud of it.

This is both a Gorean talker as well as a bit of a roleplaying port. It's been awhile since we've seen any kind of storyline develop around the city. Nothing much has occured since the larl was slain by the fortress. Some citizen roleplayers have created a Roundship that comes to port on occaision. Pip the Fool is still knocking over tankards and pots in the taverns (to the annoyance of a few slaves.. and the amusement of others). There is a gatch hopping about and a babytarn that still makes some noises from the rooftops from time to time. And while these characters help flesh out our Gorean world... one wonders what else could be going on.

A while back there were strangers seen lurking about the docks and the plaza. One such lurker dressed as a peasant and was very evasive. Another stranger, a huntsman, was seen crossing the meadows not answering to any calls and disappearing once pursued. There is talk of a group of bandits hiding in the forest beyond the walls that "encourage" wild beasts to enter our walls. There is rumor that they have even darker plans and sharpen their knives and swords by the lights of three moons.

Who knows what dangers and adventure lurks?

You can!

Yes, you can take a role in what happens in the city. Work out among a compatriot or two to devise a story and get others involved. Create a Citizen Roleplayer character to use. Let's get some stories happening. That make for a far richer experience.

Thanks, as always go out to aurora and serafina for keeping me as updated as possible on events, especially during my spots of absenteeisms. Thanks too to Fane, Xavier, and sasha for their submissions. Always appreciated, and we're always looking for more!

The Baren Touhk Gazette needs your help in staying active, timely and informative. The call for submissions is always out and there is space for anything of interest or entertaining. It's a good way to feel involved in the community (and it's said one could earn some credits for the next auction).

Some items to send in or ask about contributing to are...

  • News of collarings or silkings
  • roleplaying events
  • personal announcements (but not personal ads please)
  • poems or songs
  • articles of Gorean-related topics
  • articles of CT specific interest
  • articles for our Third Knowledge feature
  • jokes, riddles, limericks
  • ideas for regularly featured columns
  • ideas for new features
  • corrections (any time)
  • comments and criticisms (any time)

  • Pretty much anything sent in will be considered.

Finally, and yes.. this is featured elsewhere in the gazette but I feel it's worthy of a second mention, is the Holiday Appeal. If you have not read this yet, please do so now.

Crimson Talender Charity Appeal

So now we've been through the Harvest Festival, and in keeping with the theme of a bountiful Harvest and the upcoming Holiday Seasons, I would like to take this opportuntity to remind all that in every community and in every city (here or on old Earth) there are people in need. Families need food. Children need clothes. The homeless would probably appreciate a blanket or sweater for the oncoming cooler temperatures. Root about your dwelling and see what you can spare. Check your local newspapers for information on shelters and charitable organizations taking donations.

Some ideas for donations...

  • canned hams, frozen turkeys
  • canned vegetables
  • gift certificates to grocery markets
  • other non-perishable foodstuffs (rice, instant potatoes, soup mix)
  • coffee, tea, powdered milk
  • toiletries (deoderant, soap, razors, shampoos)
  • toys for children (new is nice, cleaned and used too)
  • clothes, new and used
  • blankets
  • coats, hats, mittens, gloves
  • books, videos, school supplies
  • bus passes
  • cash or service donations
  • ... and whatever your imagination suggests!
See if your workplace will allow you to set up a box for donations. Check your local supermarket for bins for local food banks and clothing drives. If you know of another way to help those in need during the coming season, speak up and I will publish it in the next issue of the gazette.

While the need does not end after the holiday season, this time of year is particularly important to families and children. Winter can be a hard time to be alone, so let's show some of that charity well known among Goreans in their cities and those all over the Earth.
