Around the Paga Keg

with Thrain

It's always hard to write something people will be interested in. What I think needs to be said other may not wish to here. So I would like for anyone and everyone to let me know what they would like to here. You can smail me in the city or e-mail me. My address is scribe25@hotmail.com

Now onto this month's thought...

What should a slavegirl learn first? There are many opinions on this subject. If she is Gorean (or at least knows something about Gor) then she should understand how to behave. If she is a barbarian and knows nothing about Gor then her first duty would be learning to listen to the masters. Failure to do so could result in a number of punishments.

Attitude, Gorean knowledge, basic positions, or how to please in the furs?!?! (There are too many masters the concentrate on just the last kind of training) We could debate this issue for ahn an ahn, but for the sake of argument let's just pick Greeting and serving. The two very first things a girl must learn to survive on Gor.

  1. GREETING – sound pretty simple but the greeting is a first impression. Screw it up and could mean the difference between a pleasant evening and months of abuse. If a slavegirl upsets a Master or Mistress because she didn't take enough interest in learning who they are addressing then she deserves whatever she gets.

Take a moment to read an .ex or a description it doesn't take long and will eliminate any simple mistakes. All should know by now that Masters and Mistresses have their names in capital letters. I recently hears a slavegirl refer to a Mistress as "sister" . Luckily for the kajira the Mistress didn't backhand her. But this shows a simple .who or .ex would have eliminated this error. I have also had slaves ask me if a person entering a room is male or female. I just tell them to do an .ex on them. That will tell them all they need to know.

After checking the people in the room and finding out about any they do not know about a slavegirl will kneel and beg entrance to the room. After permission is given and she enters… she should obviously thank the Master/Mistress that gave the permission and greet them. But how to greet? "Greetings Master Thrain." is a typical greeting. But why not "Tal Master Thrain." ? The books show slaves use Tal.

"The girls stood straight, proud under the gaze of a warrior.
`Tal, Master,' said many of them, as I rode slowly by."
    --p.344, Tribesmen of Gor

And I found this one too.

"`Tal, Master,' they said to me.   `Tal, Slave Girls,' I said to them." --p.345, Tribesmen of Gor

Just an observation. The point is feel free to enjoy seeing people here and don't be so rigid. Slavesgirls don't have to sit quietly in the corner and wait until they are noticed.

  2. SERVING – We come to a subject that has as many variations as stars in the sky. Every Master/Mistress wants something different. You have one that want the no frills serve (Just Get It Here), another the flowery serve (Show me everything you have) and finally the Horrible serve (It isn't really horrible, but nothing would satisfy these masters. They have a great need to correct everything the girl does.)

First the slave should see if anyone needs anything. Sitting on the furs and shouting out to serve is not an acceptable practice. Remember slaves are there to please the Masters and Mistresses in the city. Yelling across the room at them will only please them. A review of events in a room could help a slave out or simply asking any other slaves in the room would let them know who needs to be served. Go kneel before the Master/Mistress and ask.

After an order is received the slave should carry it out. A simple question to the Master/.Mistress being serve will prevent a number of problems. "How would you like that this evening Master?" A simple question but one that should be asked.

Now go get the drink or food. But remember what is happening in the room. If Free People are talking.. a long distracting serve will only create antagonism from them. Be mindful of those around you. And sometimes the best serves are the best.

       "`Wine, Master?' she asked.
       `Yes, Slave,' he said.
Then she knelt before him, back on her heels, head down, lifting the goblet to him, proffering it to the master with both hands."

    --p.405, Slave Girl of Gor

Wow! What a serve! Remember in all the politics and game playing in the city… sometimes the best and most sensual serves are the best.

Just my opinion. Until the next passage hand I wish you well.
