COLLARS

By DaLath Lor

Tal and greetings

In John Norman's novels about the alternate planet Earth {Gor} Earth's sister planet on the other side of the sun the word collar has the following meaning based on the scrolls that I have read as refferenced below. If I have made any mistakes please let me know.

Definition:

Collar (kol ' er) n. 1. a leather or metal band that goes around the neck of a slave. 2. a symbol designating one as a slave. -v. 1. put a collar on. 2. seize by the collar; capture. { from the earth Latin word collare

There are several types and styles of collars as follows; Collars

COMMON collar, Nomads of Gor, Page 29 :
The common Gorean collar on the other hand, is a flat snugly fit steel band. The collar locks in the back, behind the girls neck. {And is easily engraved with a legend that assures a prompt return of the slave to her master if found}.

In {Outlaw of Gor} We see "for the primary significance of the collar is that it identifies the master and his city."

Tarnsman of Gor page 11 in in my text file : Desribes a common collar as "{a light, steel-like band she wore as a collar.}"The common collar is usually black. But is grey for the state slave of Tharna."
In Priest Kings you will learn that:
"These collars are normally measured individually to the girl as is most slave steel. The collar is regarded not simply as a designation of slavery and a means for identifying the girl's owner and his city but as an ornament as well."

MESSAGE Collar, Nomads of Gor, Page 40 :
Is a high thick leather collar sewn about the neck. "Inside the leather, sewn within, will be a message."

TURIAN Collar, Nomads of Gor, Page 29 :
She wore the Turian collar, rather than the common slave collar. The Turian collar lies loosely on the girl, a round ring; it fits loosely that that, when grasped by a man's fist, the girl can turn within it; The collar locks in the back, behind the girls neck.
And is more difficult to ingrave with a legend that assures a prompt return of the slave to her master if found. Unlike other collars the Turian collar can be fitted with bells to make her wherabouts easily known and her dancing more pleasing .
And may also be fitted with chains that attach to the collar, wrist and ankle bracelets. The chains may also be removed from the wrist and or ankle bracelets to be used as a leash.

GOLD Collars of Pah Kur
"I was escorted among the tents by a tower slave, a black girl whose livery was golden and who wore large earrings that matched a golden collar."

SILVER Collars of THARNA Outlaw of Gor
"'Where in Tharna,' I asked, 'did you find Pleasure Slaves?'
I had noted that the throats of the girls were encircled by silver collars.
'You see the collars,' said Kron, pointing to the slender graceful bands of silver each girl wore at her throat.
'We melted the masks and used the silver for the collar.'

This for the moment is the limited extent of my knowledge of collars. If you have more that you would like to share please let me know.

Thank you

I wish you well and a safe journey
